  • The Perfect Match: How QCDs Empower Mid-Level Donors to Give More

Speaker: Scott Harkey

Mid-level donors are key to fundraising programs, but it can be hard to motivate this group of donors to increase their giving. Enter the Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)*, a versatile, accessible giving vehicle that mid-level donors can leverage to give more. This session will explore the background, characteristics, and behavior of mid-level donors and why this group is prime for QCD giving. We'll provide an overview of what QCDs are and how they can be used and will explore Legacy CGAs, outright QCD gifts, and Traditional IRA beneficiary designations. We'll review case studies and best practices for implementing QCD strategies that are relevant for major and annual giving fundraisers as well as fundraising marketers.

*QCD: A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) is a tax-advantaged donation that allows individuals aged 70½ or older to transfer funds directly from their Traditional IRA to a qualified charity, excluding the amount from taxable income.

  • Mid-Level Donor Today; Legacy Donor Tomorrow

Speaker: Judi Smith

The mid-level donor gets lost in many organizations. They are at the top end of the annual fund, but not at the level of Major Donor. Like the middle child, the mid-level donor needs your attention. Who are these donors? How do they give? And how can you convert them into legacy donors? Leaning on research in the field, this session offers strategies for you to implement with your own donors.

  • Leveraging DAFs for Planned Giving Success

Speaker: Lisa Barr

Leveraging DAFs for Planned Giving Success will equip major gift officers, planned giving officers, and other development professionals with knowledge about donor-advised funds (DAFs) so that they can speak with confidence about this gift vehicle. Attendees will learn the benefits of working with DAF donors to increase philanthropic commitments to their charities; how a DAF can accept complex assets; how to use DAFs to bring multiple generations into the philanthropic conversation; how DAFs can be used for estate planning purposes, and more.

  • Unlocking Generosity: Real Life Case Studies of Complex Deferred Gifts

Speakers: Wayne Lynch & Kathy Saigeon

Telling the story of how a complex gift culminates, brings life, and a sense of excitement to the numbers we crunch in our software. These numbers become the future, the solutions to problems, and fulfillment of goals to the lives of many. We will travel the road of several gifts to completion and evaluate what went right and what went wrong, so we can learn together from the trip! Let's explore a few scenarios to understand the challenges and successes in handling complex gifts.

The presenters bring unique perspectives, one fundraising for specific charitable organizations, the other primarily serving donors with multiple charitable interests. Both will share how to serve Donors for success.
